Community Supported Agriculture
Backyard Bounty partners with homeowners in Guelph to use their backyards to grow
food organically. We then sell those locally grown, seasonal vegetables to people like you!
You can become a member of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and get a
bounty of fresh vegetables every week. We’re offering 80 harvest shares
this year.

Five reasons to try out a weekly ‘Backyard Bounty Box’ membership:
- A Bounty of Food. Every week from mid June until the last week in October you’ll get a variety of vegetables, herbs, fruit and edible flowers. There will be 20 week shares of food in total – each one with enough veggies to last typically last a week for two people. If the weather cooperates and we can start sooner we’ll let you know.
- Fresh: All of our veggies are harvested at their ripest point, when nutrition and taste are at their peak. This means you will get your food the same day it was picked.
- Natural Farming Practices: We know that food is important to you - where it comes from and how it’s produced. You care not only about the price but also the taste, the health of the soil, the surrounding ecosystem, the people who grow it, and the whole community. Even though we’re not “certified” organic, we will be farming organically. No chemicals will be used. We believe in building healthy soil to grow healthy food. Our crops will include a range of rare and heirloom varieties. Our work will be ‘people powered’ with gardens being tended not only by our expert farmers but also by local volunteer community members.
- Supporting Urban Agriculture: Every dollar you invest in your food box goes into supporting food being grown right here in your city. Food will be grown within walking distance of where you live. One of the most untapped resources in our city are our own backyards. We are working on a model that creates local ‘green jobs’, a sustainable food system, re-skills people in how to grow food and involves community members in a big solution.
- Trying new foods. The beauty of a wide variety of food is that you get your favourites but you also get to try new foods you might never have come across.

There are two main reasons. Pre-selling the harvest gives us immediate money to purchase our seeds and equipment. And when you become a Backyard Bounty Box member, it allows us to share the risks and the rewards with you. If there is a wet spring, there might not be early carrots, but when we have a bumper crop then so do you.
Three more reasons to join:
- Backyard Bounty newsletter (recipes, urban-food events & updates and photos of your neighbours getting dirty).
- Seasonal Shindigs for members and friends.
- Local volunteering opportunities in any of our gardens. You’ll get to be a part of the global urban-food movement, get your hands dirty, meet like-minded folks and learn a lot without ever needing to leave Guelph.
May we ask a favour? If you have friends, neighbours or family members who might be
interested in their own Harvest Share, please pass this info along!
